We hired Yoder and Sons to build a custom home in Rehoboth Beach. At first, when you meet Yoder, he is very nice and seems like he will be a good partner in building a home. This changes dramatically once you sign the paperwork and are trapped in a very difficult situation.

We are not new to building homes and have renovated and built several homes, so we understand the typical build process and its challenges and delays. Our experience with Yoder and Sons was a whole different level of delays (3 years worth) and overages (almost a hundred thousand dollars worth).

I was disappointed with how mean-spirited Yoder was. We would walk on eggshells, unsure of whether to reach out to try to expedite the build (which would cause them to deliberately drag their feet out of spite) or just wait for months for things to get done. One time, when we inadvertently signed in the wrong place on a form, Yoder pulled his guys from the job site for a full month. This was emotionally and financially very upsetting (we were paying a full mortgage) and very cruel. We paid a fortune for the build and were devastated when they deliberately left the job site for weeks to months at a time. We eventually had to hire our own site manager (at our own expense) to try to expedite the build.

I've never been through a divorce, but my experience with Yoder and Sons was reminiscent of a divorce, filled with emotional and financial distress. The interactions were so difficult, it bordered on abusive. Once you sign the contract, you are completely at their mercy. I don't wish this experience on anyone.

Don’t hire him. Remodeled my neighbor’s townhouse and what a disaster. Still not done going on over 2 years. He does not oversee his sub-contractors properly and they have caused damages to my home because of his irresponsible behavior. Sent him a bill, but he hasn’t paid it and won’t answer my calls.

My wife and I just moved in our brand new Yoder & Sons home a month ago and could not be happier! Before we decided to hire Yoder & Sons to build our home, we talked with many other builders in Sussex County. While many of the other builders had quality homes, our final decision was based on the tremendous customer service, attention to detail, and the overall feeling that we were truly getting a custom home built by people we could trust and had a passion for building a great home. After meeting with Jay and his staff we were able to design the perfect home by using one of their original floorplans and customizing it to fit our needs. Construction began in June of 2017 and was completed December 2017 and throughout the process Jay was always accessible and made sure we were happy. Yoder & Sons project manager Ammon was an absolute pleasure to work with and was able to make suggestions along the way to improve our home. All the sub-contractors Yoder & Sons used for our home were excellent.
This was the first home my wife or I had ever built and the whole experience was fantastic. We are so happy that we decided to go with Yoder & Sons and would recommend them to anyone interested in building a custom home.
