Yes, they are very expensive otherwise, I'd have given them 5 stars. What do you get for that $$$ - clean water (I test mine) and GREAT service when your pipes aren't working. When I had problems, they did a smoke test, they cleared 'blew' out the pipes, ran a little blade down it to cut through any roots and ran a camera down it to make sure everything was fine. Very nice people both in and out of the office. Thank you for everything!

Water was shutoff for past due. Paid up to current before 3 like the flyer on my door said to get water turned back on. Watched the public works truck stop by my house and then leave when I checked the mail and left for work. Called at 4pm to check status and was told they should have already turned it back on. 530 called and luckily got some one who Saud he had already left for the day but would try to make it back. WHAT!!!! Worst utility office and billing manager in all of the pine belt.

Terrible department. Sent me a notice that I was 2 months overdue. I never got a bill for last month. They disconnected me this morning, so I had to borrow money to reconnect. I know the reconnect fee is somewhere like $20. They put a notice on my door saying instead that I owed them $70+ more than what was on the bill. Finally get the money to pay the bill. They close at 5, which is great. "Oh, you want same-day reconnect? Gotta pay it before 3, sorry." Terrible policies, terrible department. Something shady is going on, and probably illegal.

They also have an "Online Pay" service which does not work. I work full-time in Hattiesburg, so I don't have remotely enough time to get over there to pay my bill unless I take the day off. There's no excuse for this mess.

If I could give them 0 stars, I would have. Never in my life have I experienced such miserable, patronizing, condescending, snippy "customer service." They act like you're an inconvenience, and one lady even lied to the mayor a few years ago and told him I got rude with her, and he called me out at a town meeting to which I couldn't even defend myself under the circumstances. I've never walked out of that building with a good experience. The bills are outrageous and they act like you're scum f the Earth if you get behind on payments, like you're unworthy of running water when you're having financial difficulties. These employees need to be REPLACED with someone who is appreciative to have that job. Just terrible 🙁 I don't even wanna live there because of having to deal with them and their "company." They do act shady too.

I called because I was working late to see if I could pay it the next morning and they told me no, they would turn it off and not reconnect it until everything was paid plus reconnection. I've always paid on time and I have never had a water company tell me if no when I asked if I could pay the next morning. What I joke of a service.

Water bill increased without any notification before or after. I own a single person household with a city bill larger than that of any full family household I've spoken with outside of Petal.
Department representatives speak to their customers like they are an inconvenience. Requested a technician to look at a leak at the main line box. Took three weeks for technician to show up unannounced, move a load of mud onto my driveway, and never call or communicate findings as the leak continued.
If there was only a mild inconvenience to shut off my water from the city of Petal, I would undoubtedly do it.

I had our water disconnected and then paid for the return of services. When something like this happens the Water Dept. should not be blamed. Making excuses why one does not act in a timely manner to place blame on anther many times does not say much for their maturity or character. This was my fault not anyone else. I got to meet some really nice and very professional individuals at the department and they are doing a good job. Just so you know I am Stanley G. Smith, Ph.D. (Experimental Psychology), APP, (Advance Practice Provider in Behavioral Neurology), ABMPP, (Board Certified in Medical Psychotherapy and Psycho-diagnostics), ABDA. The most expensive water bill I’ve ever had in any other town. Anyone I talk to from outside of Petal thinks it’s insane the amount we pay for water here in Petal. When your water bill is as much as your electric bill something isn’t right. Wish I’d have known about this before moving to Petal.
