DO NOT TAKE YOUR TRUCK TO LIBERTY. THEY WILL RUIN IT.

Despite Liberty Trailer installing the flatbed on my truck TWICE, it was still installed INCORRECTLY & has FAILED after only 6-7 months of hauling a 2500lb truck camper (Northstar Adventurer 8.5). The rear flatbed mounts have CRACKED & left me stranded in Mexico.

Initially on the phone the company seemed reputable, so I made an appointment to have a CM SK 8' Long 7' Wide bed installed on my 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. Both the manager & install guy, Chris, gave the impression that it would be installed correctly. The total $ for the bed + install was ~$9,000, and based on $ & discussion, I expected they knew were professional & reliable.

INSTALL ATTEMPT 1- FAILED: Initially it appeared to go well. However, once I was home & able to inspect the job it was clear that all 4 brackets used for mounting the flatbed were VERY flimsy. All of the weight was being placed on thin angle with NO gussets for support (see photos). Furthermore, there was a considerable gap on the vertical portion of the angle. The weld looked sloppy & was at a slight angle. I could place a credit card between the C channel of the flatbed & the angle- ALL of this was concerning. I immediately called Liberty management to voice concern but they assured me it was fine. I specifically remember them telling me they have people pull 30,000 lb gooseneck trailers with this setup & have not had any problems.

I still did not feel comfortable so I consulted CM's Installation Manual, which clearly states that there must be 6 points of contact, made of sufficient strength. Most people use vertical pieces of channel welded to the flatbed's C channel & then bolted to the frame. Liberty installed only 4 points of contact with flimsy pieces of angle, so the bed was putting shear stress on the installed mounts rather than compressive stress. It wasn't until I contacted CM & showed Liberty the installation manual that they agreed to take another look.

The 1st install was refunded after I sent photos to CM corporate and gave them Liberty's contact information.

To make things worse...
The shop is 3 hours away from my house so I had to fill up with gasoline before I could drive back to Liberty for repairs. At the gas station I found out the nozzle coupling installed on the flatbed was installed WRONG as well. Liberty only had diesel fuel nozzles in stock even though I scheduled this install WEEKS in advance. The wrong nozzle was used & poorly welded, so at the pump it SPRAYED gas all over me & the ground. The only way to fill my tank was to siphon gas using a smaller hose fed down into the tank.

I am a registered professional engineer, but I should NOT have to design the mounting systems for a company like it.

INSTALL ATTEMPT 2: I explained to the installer why the angles were inadequate (the flatbed needed 6 points of contact like it was from the factory), & if we had to use angle then ALL mounts needed to have gussets. He only partially complied: he added gussets on the 1st row (2 mounts) with thicker angle. He installed new, thicker angle WITHOUT gussets in the 2nd row. The 3rd row mounts were left as is- with flimsy angle & NO gussets. The factory gas nozzle was re-installed & then functioned normally.

INSTALL ATTEMPT 2 PROBLEMS:

1.) The bed was 3" out of level, see the photo.
2.) I had to have the exhaust redone - the exhaust was hitting the flatbed. His solution: put a tiny piece of rubber between the exhaust & flatbed frame. This piece of rubber fell out after the first trip home which left with a loud rattling sound.
3.) The blinkers weren't recalibrated for my LED lights, so I had to pay a GMC dealer $250 to do this (NOT communicated to me prior to install. Quotes from other companies included this service)

The rear mounts that were NOT replaced in the 2nd install as requested are now CRACKED & deformed, which sheared 1 of my airbag U-bolts. I am currently in the middle of Mexico writing this review via Starlink, thanks to the scammers at Liberty Trailer.

Great prices and service. Closest place to Virginia I could find that carries cattle rack inserts for regular landscape trailers. I recommend calling ahead as I did as they had everything ready to go when I showed up, and I was able to be in and out in less than 20 minutes.
