I lived here for two years during the pandemic, and it was a nightmare. The board members are the worst, and the property is falling apart. The only positive aspect is that the rent is $700 per month for a two-bedroom unit, which is exceptionally affordable. However, the walls are paper-thin, the water is brown, and there are massive plumbing issues. Sewage backup frequently occurs in the lawns and basements of each building.

The board members are all family, and the community reserve funds aren’t used effectively. The neighborhood is terrible; cars are stolen daily around the property, and many are crashed into others parked nearby. There have been multiple break-ins on ground floor units. Overall, I strongly recommend against living here if you can find anywhere else.

I was introduced to High Park Gardens by another like myself was looking for somewhere to call home. This person was placed there in 1 week. I am no hater, but miss me with the bullshit. Anyway came for an appl/interview on Oct 17, 2024. Went very well. The comminty staff was gracious, informative, very welcoming and respectful. I was really excited, it felt like something I would enjoy. THat Monday after meeting I was excited I got my money order for record check. Went to the office (I have never been treated like this by anyone. Totally disrespected. I call in a few days. I think it was one of the ladies in the on Oct 17. Meeting. She was very nasty, total different character. She ended the conversation frustratingly. "With the nastiest tone I ever heard. "WE don't have anything available " with that she hung up the phone. Moving forward to Nov 10, 2024
I went back for a meeting about some do 's & don't. They were decent again. This whole experience has been mind boggling. At this point Noone will return my calls. I love my people but the way they are treating certain people stands to corrected. Treat people the way that you want another to treat you.

I absolutely would not recommend anyone living in this Co-op. Ms. Chavon Motayne is a bxxtch and very disrespectful. All they want is your money, they don’t fix anything, the gates are all broke to where anyone can walk in and I’ve seen seniors / shareholders packages get stolen. NONE of the cameras work. A child passed where I was staying , they never told me about anyone passing away & that was cause they refused to fix the pipe in the unit then threatened the family for eviction if they sued lol smh

I grew up right across the street from High Park Gardens! On Summerset Street! Almost 40 years ago when we moved from Hayes Holmes Projects its where I met my bestfriend Rashida Richardson she lived in High Park Gardens and so did Anthony and Allen, Amanda,Lacey, Tiff and steph and a whole lot of over friends we grew up with! Me and Rashida ran all through High Park Gardens we had so much fun and we were safe always!! We then became bestfriends for over 40 years!!! Till she passed away about 2 months ago! So many memories and a great place to raise kids it was back then!! We were always on Rashida Porch!! I always wanted to live there! Some of the best memories of my life!!!

The complaints I have are ridiculous & simple. They just don’t fix anything right away. You would think just because the outside looks clean the inside is Good.. but WRONG! It’s 27 degrees outside my mother literally has her stove on to keep her warm. HAZARDOUS!! They take forever to fix anything, you have to schedule an appointment to make an appointment to get something fixed... Before you move in. you can get in contact with everybody, after that move-in date you’re on your own.

Its a good place to live but the board of directors sucks. They turn the place to family business and only transferred to their families and friends. If you submit a form to be filled, I will take months to get it back. Its just annoying

Nice place to stay in gated community with security. Wish the apartment was in a lower floor because I am disable.

Quiet residential neighborhood. This is not a rental but a co-operative. Assigned parking, gated community in downtown Newark.
