My experience with Downtown Hi Tech has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I went in to have my laptop diagnosed and to replace my iPhone through Apple Care, paying $300 upfront for the service. I was assured they would call me when they had the replacement phone ready, but no call ever came. When I followed up in person, the owner was shockingly rude and unprofessional!

Rather than addressing my concerns, he accused us of being rude without any reason and flat-out refused to give us back our property. He’s holding both my laptop and phone hostage, insisting I sign away my rights to the phone just to get my laptop back. I can even see my devices through the glass in his shop, yet he refuses to return them!

I have been forced to contact Apple Care, file complaints with the BBB, and even involve the police. This has been the worst customer service experience of my life, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. The owner’s rude behavior and lack of professionalism have turned what should have been a simple service into a drawn-out ordeal. Avoid Downtown Hi Tech at all costs – they will take your money, refuse to provide service, and withhold your property with no accountability!!!

Today, 12/19/24 around 1:30 PM, I visited Hi-Tech after being referred by a local Mac store to service my older 2015 laptop. Unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. I had many questions as this was my first time seeking such a service, but the representative's tone quickly became irritated and condescending. I was quoted $200-$300 but wasn't provided clear information about warranties, receipts, or next steps if additional issues arose.

When I asked about these details, the employee responded dismissively, even saying "obviously" when I inquired about getting a receipt. Despite his unprofessional tone, I attempted to proceed with the larger 256GB hard drive option, only to be told he didn't know if it was in stock and was "too busy" to check and would take at least another day for him to let me know. His visible annoyance at my questions made me feel unwelcome, and I ultimately decided to leave without service. Now that I am finally reading the reviews, which I wished I did prior to wasting my time, I wouldn't have made the trip.

As someone who works in customer service, I don't believe the customer is always right, but I do believe in basic courtesy and professionalism. This experience was unnecessarily frustrating, and I'd strongly recommend additional training for staff on soft skills and customer interactions. I was ready and willing to spend hundreds of dollars, but the lack of respect and clarity lost them my business.

This place is horrible—just look at the reviews. Avoid this place at all costs because they are dishonest, and it’s clear they only care about money, not customer service. I have AppleCare, and I took my laptop there because the screen cracked. They quoted me $149, which immediately raised a red flag because I’ve always paid $99 with AppleCare for similar repairs. I should have realized something was wrong when they asked me to pay upfront before providing any service on my laptop, which I’ve never experienced before. Do yourself a favor and just go to Apple directly and avoid this shady place. If your store is apple certified you should be following the apple care price not your own price . I will find a way to report this store , I hate when companies take advantage of people .

Went there to replace iPhone battery. Their price sounded high, so went to compare w/ DTLA Apple Store (who ended up charging a lot less). Another time they did help me find my missing cell phone, free of charge. Maybe it depends on who is working there that day.

DO. NOT. GO. HERE. Read their reviews, look for the theme. My phone was fully functional before they replaced my battery. Robert, Julio, and Daniel TChinguengue worked on the battery replacement and when I got my phone back, both my top and bottom speakers were muffled. To the point of not being able to properly hear phone calls. When I called them, they were uncooperative and borderline unprofessional saying I'd have to pay for them check it since they only replaced the battery. The call ended with Julio saying "then do not trust us. This conversation is over" and hung up on me. I took it to the Apple Store at The Grove and they said yes your speakers are damaged, you need to replace them BUT they did me a solid. They are replacing it for free due to this situation. Downtown Hi-Tech almost cost me over $400 for fixing an issue that THEY caused. The Apple Tower Theatre is 6 blocks down the road from this location, save yourself a headache and go to an ACTUAL Apple store, NOT here.

Horrible experience. I should have read reviews about this guy's business before I wasted my day trusting the manager of this business. He kept delaying the ETA on the repair over and over again. I nearly lost my whole day unfortunately.

He also charged me up front for the job ($349), even though he hadn't done the work. In the end, I was forced to demand my phone back and my refund while dealing with his unpleasant demeanor.

He puts tables in front to prevent customers from entering his pathetic store. And this is an APPLE approved store It really shouldn't be.

UPDATE: The very next day (today) I took my phone into another Repair Shop (NOT APPLE AUTHORIZED) and they fixed my Iphone in LESS THAN 20 MINUTES FOR $90 INSTEAD OF THE $349 PRICE OF DOWNTOWN HI-TECH LA. By the way, they actually fixed my phone and did not waste my time, lie to me, or threaten me like they did at DOWNTOWN HI-TECH.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR APPLE PRODUCTS TO DOWNTOWN HI-TECH. THEY ARE A RIP OFF AND WILL WASTE YOUR TIME.

Whatever you do don’t come here I have apple care and he said my problems would not be covered by apple care. I went to the Apple Store at the Americana and the Apple Store covered everything without charge. Fixed the messed up pixels in my screen and the charging port. Guy is a liar
