Came here with a group of 4 and we got a reservation online.

Good
- Each dish was so good! We even got a free biscuit and honey dish from the chef that was amazing, good flakey texture
- Miso mac n cheese was so good - never had a dish like it before and we devoured it quickly
- My dish was the chicken curry katsu - it was ok, I think 6/10 but I liked how it was clean and had a lot of healthy ingredients like veggies
- I liked the shrimp n grits since they had a unique asian twist

Bad:
- The wait time was insane between dishes - we needed to wait about 30 min for our first dish, then another 30 min after to get our entree, so it was a lot of waiting between eating
- Loud DJ playing in the back so you need to yell a bit to hear people

Overall this was a cool vibe and a fun atmosphere and I think the food is worth going back for.

Their chicken biscuit sliders were really good! The miso glaze on the biscuits was sticky on the fingers but it had a nice touch of sweetness and the chicken was crunchy but moist. They also offer you sauces if you want so I asked for mine on the side. The Yuzu lemon pepper (not pictured) and the wasabi buffalo were delicious! It was a nice touch of tang to add to the dish if you’re into that. My wife had the fried chicken curry with rice and she really annoyed it. The music was nice and the 2 guys helping the tables were doing their best to make sure we were taken care of.

UPDATE HAS NOT IMPROVED I TRIED GOING IN FOR A QUICK BITE, THERE'S TO MANY OPTIONS ON THIS BLOCK SPEND MONEY ELSEWHERE: A potentially incredible place for a quick bite right across from the greatest bookstore. The gentleman working the front really gave us the cold shoulder, wasn't very friendly I understand they were busy but it took a while for the food. My friend got his wings a whole 20-25 mins before I received my miso Mac. I wasn't planning on drinking but I also didn't think I would have to wait 30 mins for some water. I had time to go out and make a call, smoke a whole joint and the food hadn't arrived. I asked if I could cancel and they mentioned it would be ready in 3 mins. I took about double the time but I honestly believe it might have been on purpose because I didn't want it anymore. I paid because I want to try this place again. But then again I don't think I'd be that upset if I never came back as well. There's so many options around the area. I hope they get some extra help and it gets better. Best of luck.

This place is amazing. From the genuine kindness the owner gives you when you first walk through the door, to the welcoming atmosphere that transforms your mind into a destination location. Wax on Hifi fits what downtown LA needs these days. The music is always good, the drinks are immaculate and the food is fire. Get the wings!! Also did I mention they source their food locally? Wow! Whether it's date night, night out with friends, or a solo date for yourself make sure it's at this spot.

The food here is spectacular, it’s my favorite kind of fusion: Asian + Southern Style Comfort Food.

Wings: We got the Yuzu lemon pepper wings and they were fried to a perfect crisp and the sauce was generously drenched on each wing.

Miso Mac&Cheese: OMG THIS IS DA BOMB DOT COM. Seriously, this is the most perfect Mac and cheese, with a smooth bechamel base and 5-6 different kinds of cheeses perfectly balanced. It comes with a furikake sprinkled top and crispy brûléed cheese. The miso blends in perfectly for a rich umami bite.

Fried Chicken Japanese Curry with Andouille Sausage: this one felt like a mix between Japanese curry and gumbo in the best way, the rice has a nice plump texture, and the chicken was seasoned perfectly.

Shrimp & Grits: I loved this subtle twist on a southern comfort classic. The gravy on this one is super unique and so addicting, the shrimp are cajun spiced and soooo yummy.

Shoyu Ramen: this one is vegetarian and a pretty good so if you have a vegan or vegetarian friend joining, they can have a tasty option too

I can’t wait to come back, this place is going to be my new neighborhood staple.

This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had in my thirty-something years of life, anywhere in the world. The only nice person was an African American lady, but the busser with long dreads was the rudest I’ve ever encountered. The food took over an hour to arrive, and after our appetizer was served, we never received any utensils—I had to call the server just to start eating. And when the food finally came, it was dry, gross, and completely disappointing. Trust me, this was the worst restaurant ever. I usually don’t bother leaving reviews, even after bad experiences, because I think it’s a waste of time, but this time, I felt I had to warn others.

Ordered wings to go, and got four wings smaller than my thumb LOL. Picture makes them look bigger than they were. Didn’t get the sauces right. Was a weeknight with no crowd.

Miso Mac N Cheese also was disappointing… 😢

Not great service. The food was not worth the wait either. Japanese cuisine requires precision - there is none here. Not interested in going back. The food looks better on social media. But in real life? The music is better than the food. I want to support the concept. But I can't have anyone I care about eat the bland mac and cheese, soggy fried chicken and gyoza, or the Bisquick-chalky biscuits. I personally question the honesty on any positive reviews of the food. They feel like paid/comped reviews to me, whether or not they had a bad night.
